• New Discovery Experience: Moments is a new Roblox experience now rolling out as a beta that enables users to capture, edit, and share their most exciting gameplay moments on Roblox, helping others find new, diverse experiences.

• New Creator Tools for Content Creation and Discovery: We built Roblox Moments using the same platform capabilities that will be available to creators. We've developed new creator tools that support content capture, editing, sharing, and discovery features. We are also sharing the Moments source code, so creators can build their own in-experience creation and discovery systems when we open up these API-based capabilities later this year.

• Dynamic Content Platform, Ready for Multiple Formats: While we're showcasing short-form video in this first application, the tools and APIs that power Moments are built for the future of dynamic content and other forms of in-experience creation, unlocking new opportunities for growth, monetization, and brand integrations.

• Built-In Safety: All captured content for publication is proactively moderated, and we make it easy for users to report any inappropriate content. Roblox Moments is available to users 13 or older at launch. 

Today at the Roblox Developers Conference (RDC), we announced a major step forward for user-generated content (UGC) on our platform by introducing Roblox Moments. This supports our commitment to reimagine how people come together through optimism and civility, fostering creativity and self-expression across the platform. To empower a new form of creativity, we’re launching Moments, a Roblox experience now in beta that enables users to capture, edit, and share their most exciting gameplay moments that help others find new, diverse experiences. 

We believe that the time people spend together on Roblox, the epic victories, the hilarious fails, and the unforgettable moments, deserve to be shared. For years, users have been doing this off-platform, creating a massive presence with Roblox-related content garnering over 1 trillion video views on YouTube¹. We are building on the momentum we've seen directly on Roblox, where users have already captured over 930 million screenshots² and, in the short time since we launched video captures in July, over 240 million videos³ in experiences. 

The Moments experience shows what is possible with our new creator-focused tools. A set of APIs will be released soon to help creators build their own in-experience content creation, sharing, and discovery systems. These tools are designed to support a new era of creativity, social interaction, and discovery on Roblox by enabling more moments to be captured and shared, making users’ most exciting gameplay directly available to the community.

Moments serves as an engine for discovery, immersing users in inspiring, community-captured gameplay. From gameplay videos, users can engage with reactions and tap "Join" to instantly enter the highlighted experience. Moments is currently accessible from Search and the More tab, with future plans for additional placements on Home. This beta rollout is intended to gather key user insights to refine and optimize the feature ahead of a broader launch.

Moments provides users with a creative and discovery-focused experience that highlights the power of the new APIs through these key steps:

• Capture: With Video Captures, users can record and save clips of their gameplay moments, up to 30 seconds, from their favorite Roblox experiences.

• Create & Share: Users can take their captured video to the Moments experience to craft their story by trimming their clip, adding music (thanks to our partnership with DistroKid), and writing a description before publishing their Moment for the Roblox community to discover.

• Discover: Moments features a gallery of user-captured content, allowing users to easily find, react to, and join new experiences.

By building the Moments experience ourselves, we're demonstrating how any creator can utilize this set of tools to build their own engaging creation and discovery features. This includes leveraging the Video Capture API and editing tools to let users record and refine clips, as well as using the Recommendation, Policy, and Moderation service APIs to help build discovery features that are both dynamic and safe. 

Highlighting a few of the APIs that can be used alone or in combination to create new layers of creation and discovery:

• Captures API (available now): Lets users record moments inside a creator's experience. Creators can also customize prompts for these captures, seamlessly integrating the feature to celebrate specific in-game events and achievements.

• Upload API (coming soon): Enables users to publish and share their captured content within the creator’s experience.

• Recommendation API (coming soon): Leveraging the same technology we use for our Discovery surfaces like Home, this API enables creators to integrate custom, content-based features directly into their own experiences. Creators can customize how shared content is ranked, displayed, and personalized for their audience, giving them new ways to drive engagement and retention. This enables creators to build custom features that showcase trending clips and content from their own experience. 

Here are a few examples of how creators can use these APIs: 

Enhancing Gameplay with Highlight Reels

Creators can leverage these new APIs to automatically trigger a capture and to prompt users to share peak moments, such as a user completing a difficult challenge in an obstacle game. The Captures API allows experiences to save these moments without interrupting gameplay. Following this, the Upload API enables users to easily share their moments. To further engage the community, creators can use the Recommendations API to curate and display an in-experience highlight reel, transforming individual achievements into a shared celebration that keeps the excitement high and motivates new users.

Driving In-Game Discovery

Beyond celebrating individual achievements, these APIs can be used to foster community-driven discovery. For instance, in a racing experience, a dynamic billboard could use the Recommendations API to showcase real-time highlights of the coolest overtakes or fastest driving lines from other users. This creates a living highlight reel directly within the experience, offering real-time gameplay inspiration that encourages users to improve their own skills and remain engaged. This is a significant evolution from static leaderboards, turning community accomplishments into a dynamic feature of the experience itself.

Empowering Creative Self-Expression

By using the source code from Roblox Moments and these APIs, creators can build and customize features for an in-experience fashion showcase. This provides users with the tools to capture their favorite avatar looks, edit them into unique video content, and share their personal style with the community. This deep integration of content creation into the core gameplay fosters a more creative and social atmosphere, making user expression a central part of the experience.

This is a journey we are taking with Roblox creators and the community. While we're showcasing short-form video in this first application, the tools and APIs that power Moments are built for the future of dynamic content and other forms of in-experience creation.
